Outreach

Feeding the Hungry and Homeless

For several years, the Outreach committee has provided a hot, nourishing supper to the homeless and hungry in Boston at St. John the Evangelist, 35 Bowdoin Street. We are looking for someone to head up the homeless supper program. If you need more information, please contact Betty Logan.

We are scheduled for the following dates:

Thursday, February 8
Thursday, May 24
Thursday, August 23
Thursday, November 29

Manpower requirements:

1-2 people to shoop in advance for ingredients

1-2 people to cook the hamburg, pepper, and onions the Wednesday before

5 - ? to transport and prepare the meal in Boston (leave Epiphany at 3:00 pm, return by 8:00 pm.)

All instructions and directions are in the file cabinet in the Church office.

Episcopal Chaplain for Boston Children's Hospital

The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) has launched a fund raising program to fill a need for an Episcopal Chaplain at Boston Children’s Hospital. We have been contacted to request a donation from outreach. The cost for one day is $270 ($30 per hour x 9 hours).  The suggestion is for each participating parish to cover the cost of one full day per year although more or less would be appreciated.

Recycling

We have started a recycling program, the proceeds of which will be used for Outreach. We ask that you save all of your recyclable paper & bring it to Church instead of the using the town pickup. A large dumpster has been placed in the parking lot next to the trash dumpster. We can accept all Newspapers, Magazines, Office/ School papers, Shopping Catalogs and Mail. NO cardboard, metal, glass or plastic. This material will be recycled into newsprint and we will be paid a stipend based on tonnage.

Thanks to all who have been dropping off their recyclable paper at our dumpster.  The response has exceeded all expectations and the dumpster has already been emptied a number of times. If we all asked 1 or 2 neighbors for their papers we could double or triple the amount.

It is understood that it is much more convenient to use the town pickup but by participating you will save the town some money, as they pay a set fee plus tonnage. One suggestion is to start a separate container just for the Church bin and bring that to Church as needed.

Also if you leave a message with the Church Office we have volunteers who will come to your house & pick up your recyclables. A special container will be located in the Narthex for smaller amounts and for Sunday bulletins etc.

John Griswold Fund

A memorial fund has been established for the Rev. John Griswold, who was our well-loved rector from 1971 to 1985. This fund, which has the approval and blessing of the family, will be used for outreach projects to be decided on at a later date. If you wish to contribute, please make checks payable to "Epiphany Parish" with a notation "For the John Griswold Fund."

Eyeglasses for the Needy

The return of a program we supported in the past! Bring in ANY old unwanted prescription eyeglasses. This will be an ongoing program at Epiphany. Please look for the collection basket in the Narthex.

For information about Outreach efforts, or to make suggestions for additional efforts, please contact Jim Logan, Chairman/Coordinator, at 508-668-3689 or email .
