How has Epiphany Parish been able to survive and flourish through difficult economic times? The answer is through the generosity of parishioners past who have made legacy contributions to the church. Our endowment started as a Kendall Scholarship some years ago, with an amount of $25000. Through careful stewardship and investment it has grown to almost $500,000 and provides a base for many of our annual operations. The Dutton Scholarships are provided for our acolytes, and there are several other special funds for special purposes established for the parish.
How did these come to be? For the most part they were gifts that were made as part of estates, given before or after death in some way to enhance the parish. Notice that the Kendall Fund, now generally known as the Endowment, has grown tremendously over the years. Like a tree, it has provided new branches, has gained in strength, and each year provides “shade” for our parish operations. The name Arbor Society is drawn from this concept of growth. Endowments to the parish are living activities; they grow and flourish and provide sustenance and support for many years.
In that context, Epiphany Parish has established The Epiphany Arbor Society. The Society recognizes grantors, past and present, who have made charitable bequests to Epiphany Parish. Each member of the Society will be recognized by having their name recorded in The Epiphany Arbor Society register which will be kept in the Narthex of the Church, along with the memorial gifts register. Names of Society members will be printed in the annual meeting report so that membership will be recognized by all parishioners.
Planned Giving Ministry
Many parishioners, as they age, think about making enduring gifts to the parish where they were nurtured and supported; where they raised their families. The ministry of planned giving assures long-term health of the parish. Your gift will be more than a simple cash donation. It will be a legacy from which generations of Epiphany families will benefit. Your gift is far more than a pledge. It is a commitment to sustaining Christian worship and fellowship in Walpole, at Epiphany Parish, for years to come.
